I was hosting a big backyard BBQ celebration when it hit me.

After the last guest left, we filled two bins with garbage. Disposable plates. Plastic cups. A thin plastic tablecloth that had ripped within an hour. Plastic utensils. Synthetic streamers. All of it headed straight for a landfill — and nobody thought twice about it, because this is just what parties look like.

I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Americans spend over $5 billion on party supplies every year — and most of it becomes trash within hours of the last guest leaving. Mylar balloons. Synthetic glitter. Plastic tableware. Materials that will still exist in our oceans and landfills a century from now. And yet celebrations are some of the most meaningful moments in human life. They deserve better.

I looked for one place that made it easy to throw a genuinely beautiful, genuinely sustainable party. I couldn't find it.

So I built it.

SmartBash exists to make sustainability effortless. Not a compromise. Not a sacrifice. Not a research project. Just beautiful, planet-friendly party supplies — curated, vetted, and ready to go. You shouldn't have to spend hours hunting down eco credentials or decoding sustainability claims. That's our job. Your job is to gather people and celebrate.

I'm Cathryn Poff, founder of SmartBash and a communications and sustainability professional with roots in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii — two places where the stakes of environmental stewardship are impossible to ignore. SmartBash is my answer to something I couldn't stop seeing: the party industry has a massive waste problem, and nobody had made the solution simple, elegant, and accessible.

Every product in our store is curated for real eco credentials — compostable, biodegradable, recycled, or reusable. No greenwashing. No "eco-ish." If it's in our store, it meets our standard.

Celebrations deserve to be festive and fun — and to leave behind warm memories, not a landfill's worth of disposables.
